Super Saturday

Delightful morning today first at Alameda Open Space and then a little time near the Open Space Visitor Center.  Spring is certainly just about to happen around here, with a few trees starting to bloom, including this (I think) crab apple.

A bit surprised not to see the Black-crowned Night Herons or any Kingfishers, but did note the pair of Double-crested Cormorants out in the river where they were a couple weeks ago.  Soon after stepping into the woods on the west side of the river north of Alameda, I came across this spot…how many porcupines do you see? (no peeking!)

More than one?

More than one?

Two, right?

At least two

Nope.  You didn’t count the third one right behind you!

These guys are just too cool, but I’ve never seen three at once before.

And, whoa, right at the end of my visit to the area near the Open Space Visitor Center, but dang, there’s another Great Horned Owl nesting right by the levee along the Bosque Trail.

Either I’m getting better at this stuff or just paying closer attention these days.
